Homemade Soap

Homemade Soap

A sweet craft for all ages, these are simple to make, requiring minimal ingredients, easy to personalise, and great fun to make as a unique and thoughtful gift.

We made ours with clear soap base, biodegradable glitter and dried flower petals. We used a silicone heart-shaped mould, and microwave-safe ramekins too 😊

To make things easy for you we've put together our own DIY Soap Kit, which comes with everything you need to have some creative fun with your kids!

Firstly, prepare your soap decorations. Place a pinch of biodegradable glitter and a pinch of dried flower petals of your choice into a small dish. You may like to keep all the soaps the same, or make a variety. Use a few small dishes or even egg cups to arrange the decorations for each variety. As we were making small soaps, we made four different varieties, using four different bio glitters and four different types of dried flower.

Other ideas of things to add are essential oils, dried spices (clove buds, star of anise, etc.), dried orange slices, steeped green tea leaves, dried herbs, poppy seeds.

Next get your mould ready, we used a silicone ice cube tray to make tiny little heart soaps. Our DIY Soap Kit comes with 4 larger dome shaped moulds.

Next we chopped up our soap bar into four pieces and then into small cubes, great fun! If you are making different varieties of soap, you will want to divide the bar equally before chopping up to ensure each variety is the same size / makes the same number of soaps.

The soap can then be slowly heated up in the microwave, stir every 20 seconds, and as soon as it is liquid, add in the chosen decorations, then pour into the mould. It is best to do one variety at a time as the soap cools down quickly and becomes clumpy. If it does this before you have poured it into the mould, just microwave it briefly, and give it a good stir.

The moulds will need to sit and cool for a little while, and then they can be popped out of their moulds, and placed into a pretty jar for gifting, or straight into the bathroom!
